Theme Thursday: Medical Theme

Posted on July 25, 2013 at 4:15 AM Comments comments (0)

Essence of Events would like to bring you a theme that is so unique, it's sure make your heart skip a beat. When these two doctors met, they showed all the symptoms for a love that was sure to last. When they decided that it was time to tie the knot, incorporating a medical theme into their wedding was nothing foreign to them. Their bright wedding was a gorgeous affair and the results definitely tested positive!

Idioms like this were scattered throughout the entire event.

As guests entered the ceremony they passed through the “Waiting Room.”

Guests were directed to check in and leave their prescription for a good marriage at the receptionist’s desk. Colorful clipboards adorned the office wall while displaying guest names and what room they were to be seen in (AKA table assignments) for later that evening.

The bride’s favorite animal is an elephant, and the cross representing the medical field was carried throughout the wedding in various elements including the table numbers.

The guests received candy pill bottle favors that read “There is no remedy to love, but to love more,” by Henry David Thoreau that are placed on each table setting.

Each candle votive is wrapped in white gauze, thus adding to the medical theme.

There were many sweet options at this wedding to choose from, perhaps a dentist would be more helpful than a doctor?!

Delicious cupcakes with quirky names is always a great way to blend a theme, feed guests, and offer a variety of dessert options.

The dessert bar at this wedding is fantastic!

When you have a color scheme, don’t be afraid to go bold, and try different linens on each table with a new pattern, texture, and shade. Mix it up and be fearless!

Theme Thursday Presents: Watercolor

Posted on July 18, 2013 at 4:15 AM Comments comments (0)

Essence of Events, LLC chose today’s theme because it was such a fun inspiration for this artistic couple. The groom, art history professor, and the bride, and artist, were both inspired by the abstract expressionist painter, Jackson Pollock, to create this watercolor masterpiece of a wedding.

Wishing to re-create their favorite artworks on their special day their muse was watercolor (as seen in the paper details and cake) and of course their favorite artist Mr. Pollock (in the walls and macaroons). To see their theme come to life, check out their photos below.

The abstract tablescape and panels lining the room add to the artistic flare.

Each table was labeled with an artist’s name, instead of a table number.

The escort card and guest favor was a mini pallet and paint set!

The dining table details include a DIY hand painted canvas backdrop, DIY hand painted paper color wheel charger, paint can centerpieces, paint palette appetizer plates, a watercolor painted menu, and painted utensils.

The menu card looks like a color sample.

Even the blown-glass vases have an abstract feel to them with the multicolored flecks thrown in.

The sign-in table includes a canvas to paint for the bride and groom.

The programs have a painter’s wheel feel to them.

Love the watercolor painted cake, the Pollock inspired macaroons, and mini cupcakes, along with the hand painted dessert menu.

Theme Thursday: Decade Parties

Posted on July 11, 2013 at 4:10 AM Comments comments (2)

Throwing an anniversary bash, a bachelorette, or a reunion? Really any party can be made into a fantastic and fun ode to a decade. Whichever decade you choose, there are four essential elements to success and Essence of Events, LLC can point you in the right direction. The most obvious and perhaps the most important element in a decade party is the fashion! The 50s are known for poodle skirts, greasers, and varsity jackets, think Grease.

The 60s is known for its hippies! So embrace your inner flower child and rock a boldly patterned outfit.

Have you ever seen Saturday Night Fever? Then you know the 70s is all about disco!

Big hair, brightly colored spandex, valley girls and Miami Vice characterize the iconic 80s.

Whichever decade you choose, popular music from that era is a must! Some simple googling will help you create a mix that will get your guests out of their seats and onto the dance floor. The King of Rock & Roll stole the show in the 50s, but other popular singers were Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, and Doris Day.

The 60s was a time of British Invasion with such artists as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds.

The 80s saw a new use of synthesizers and other non-traditional instruments and rap was particularly popular in the latter half of the decade. Some of the most popular musical stars were Michael Jackson, Madonna, Metallica, Bruce Springsteen, and Run D.M.C.

Of course it is essential to include decade themed décor at your event. Rent a jukebox, paste bright flowers and peace signs all over the walls, or throw up a disco ball. Whatever you do, make sure it is true to your decade and that it is fun. And lastly, if possible, theme the food of your event to your decade. Like malts and burgers for the 50s!

Ombre - Thursday Themes

Posted on July 4, 2013 at 4:30 AM Comments comments (0)

Everyone loves ombre right now, and at Essence of Events we are definitely guilty of rocking this trend but today’s couple featured in Theme Thursday has taken the bride’s love of this latest chic style and incorporated in into their wedding.

Inspired by the sunset, as well as other gorgeous elements, including Italy where the bride and groom spent much of their engagement, they prove that you can take a fashion and make it into a complete event. Check out the photos below to get inspired for a night Under the Tuscan Sun.

The color scheme followed a sunset hue, with deep oranges and peaches, which was reflected in the bride’s bouquet. The wedding dress was custom made and straight off the runways in Milan.

The coral bridesmaids dresses added a strong pop of color to the muted tones of the rest of the décor and color of the wedding.

Younger members of the wedding party make their way to the alter in this care-free wedding ceremony.

Ombre rose petals are scattered along the aisle runner.

The happy couple are married as the sun begins to set.

The witty napkin design shows this quirky couple’s fun-loving side.
