Ladies and gentlemen! Boys and girls! Children of all ages! Step right up and take a gander at this week’s: Theme Thursday! A spectacular show of a big top love affair and lots of clowning around helped to make this Circus Showdown a night to remember.
The couple who were married under the big top in front of friends and family wanted their wedding to embody everything they love to celebrate; good food, good music, and good fun!
The vintage circus theme came about with handmade and antiqued details, which helped to bring the day to life. Scroll through the photos below to see more, and enjoy some of life’s happiest moments; weddings and circus, bundled into one!

The custom designed letterpress invitations had a perforated ticket for the guests to bring for admission.

When they arrived, guests picked up their popcorn-box programs, so they could snack while they watched the bride and groom say their vows.

Coca Cola was served in glass bottles, which added to the nostalgic and fun feel of the day.

The couple said their vows under a handmade fabric and paper backdrop, and were pronounced husband and wife by a ringmaster.

Guests sat and enjoyed their food and beverages at tables sporting vintage and handmade circus-themed centerpieces.

The guests even got into the theme, right down to the littlest ones. This adorable flower girl is rocking a mustache pacifier, if you care to do a double-take.

The Secret Garden - Theme Thursday

Where, you tend a rose, my lad, a thistle cannot grow,” Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
Today’s wedding is inspired by the classic garden variety of The Secret Garden and the romance of Jane Austin’s novels. Though all-American, this couple wanted to bring some whimsy from across the pond to their big day with sweet details from the bespoke floral invitations, to the bouquets, and the venue.
The guests must have truly felt like they had been transported to an English garden in a different time. But although the wedding had many feminine touches, the bride didn’t want to take away from the fact that it was a shared day between she and her husband.
With all the spring flowers blooming, it is a perfect time for Essence of Events to feature this wedding and all the lovely features it includes. Check out all the pictures below for more of your own inspiration.

The bride and groom on their big day. The arch way is straight from an English garden, and her veil is like a fascinator; very British indeed.

The bespoke invitations, place settings, menu cards, and other text for the day have so much detail and beautiful touches. They are all miniature works of art.

The aisle and the alter are very vintage, antique, and boho chic.

The bride and groom after saying their "I-Do's."

The escort and seating chart holders. Everyone’s name is attached to a vintage bottle with a flower in it; find your name and it will tell you where you’re sitting. What a wonderful idea!

Very adorable napkins with fun facts at the cocktail hour.

The reception area.

I love how they have combined fruit into the centerpieces; it adds a beautifully whimsical touch to this already gorgeous table setting.

Antique cups and vases adorn the tables.

An up close of the table card numbers. After the wedding the bride and groom can frame these as art; they are quite beautiful and will be a lovely reminder of the day.

Using urns to display flowers will be popular this year for floral arrangements. The rug on the right displays the boho vibe the couple also incorporated into the theme of the day.

The garden party had a special “gentlemen’s corner” at the reception which had a vintage golf flare. Included were antique clubs, tee signs, plaid pillows, golf ball cake pops, and other touches like antlers, vintage cut glasses, alcohol bottles, and decanters.

The happy couple enjoying the wedding!

The Great Gatsby is officially out in theaters, and at Essence of Events, we couldn’t be more excited. Being a Baz Luhrmann production, it’s going to be full of drama, romance, and some good old fashioned, movie making razzle dazzle that is so Hollywood, so Gatsby, and so perfect for a wedding.
Every wedding needs sparkle, and so this movie, like the roaring twenties, has handed it to us on a gilded platter, with a champagne flute next to it, for good measure!
This couple has decided to jump on board with the big trend of a Gatsby wedding, and has put their own Luhrmann-esque twist on their day.

The table settings.

I love the vintage plates and menu cards.

The dessert table at this wedding will be the envy of sweet lovers across the globe.

Sweet details are in every aspect of this wedding, even down to the cupcake liners.

Champagne jello shots, delicious and fun!

Crème Brulee in vintage champagne glasses, I cannot get over how beautiful this looks, let alone how amazing it must taste.

More desserts, with an art deco design, plus the couple’s name and wedding date.

A custom hanger for the wedding dress. You can also get ones that say “Mother of the Bride,” “Maid of Honor,” and all your bridesmaid’s names. A sweet and thoughtful gift.

The bride and groom, looking appropriately dressed to match their theme.

Wizard of OZ Wedding - Theme Thursday

Inspiration can strike us no matter where we are. We can be walking down the street and see a tree and suddenly be struck with the idea to knit a moss colored blanket because you loved the way the pine needles hung from the branches. Okay, so maybe that’s a little out-there, but for this couple, inspiration struck them in the form of a classic book-turned movie.
The Wizard of Oz happens to be this couple’s inspiration for their reception, and the color scheme is emerald green (the emerald city), gold (the yellow brick road), and red (Dorothy’s ruby slippers). They used fun elements from this classic to bring their wedding to life, like rubber-stamped artwork, ruby slippers, and their own real-life Toto.

These pieces of art hung on the reception site walls to add to the theme of the evening.

Wildflower centerpieces adorn the tables that whimsically remind guests of the Land of Oz.

The cake is gold with poppies on it to remind guests of the yellow brick road, lined with poppies.

The cupcakes are adorned with hot air balloons, because of course, that’s the wizard’s preferred method of transportation! Her dress just reminds me of Glinda the Good Witch, and her shoes, who wouldn’t be jealous of those?! The Tin Man, he would for sure!
Even if a Wizard of Oz theme might not be right for you, we’d still love to help you find your inspiration, whatever that may be. Give us a call or email us with your questions and we would love to talk with you more about what inspires you.
