Photobooths - Snapshot Sunday

Posted on May 19, 2013 at 8:40 AM Comments comments (9)

Photo booths are increasingly popular for weddings nowadays. The appeal is all there; capture candid shots of your guests that you want to keep, and give them a cute memento to take home with them that they’ll want to keep, long after the festivities are over.

Photo booths start at about $500 and increase from there, so unless you have budgeted for that expense, and most couples haven’t, it is usually just a fun afterthought, here is a way to get the photo booth feel, without the expense.

To DIY your own photo booth, you’ll just need an iPad or tablet, some props, and a backdrop; you can either rent one, make one, or just use a plain wall in your venue.

If you, or a friend or family member, has an iPad or tablet, let your guests take photos with that. The larger screen will make it easy to see and there is always the option for retaking photos that you don’t like.

Once your guests have taken their photos with the props, either ones you have made, purchased, or rented, they can upload their photo to a wedding Instagram account you’ve created for the day, Twitter, or Facebook on the tablet, or if you connect it to a printer, then they can take immediate copies home with them. (To learn more about using social media and crowdsourcing on your wedding day, click here!)

Voila! A photo booth that will be just as fun, but at the fraction of the cost!

But, if you are dead-set on having a photo booth with an established, professional photographer, and your budget is thisclose to allowing you to squeeze one in there, consider Tie It With Us. They are a media group who photograph weddings and events, and customize their packages to suit your budgets.

Tie It With Us does have some excellent packages that include photo booths, along with all your other wedding day photography. The Story package for $1495 and Absolute Package $1995 both have a green-screen instant print wedding booth included, along with all the other brilliant extra’s these guys offer, like a matted print for your guests to sign, all day coverage, two photographers, and much more.

Crowd sourcing Wedding Photos - Snapshot Sunday

Posted on May 12, 2013 at 1:30 PM Comments comments (0)

You’ve hired a photographer, but all she keeps doing is taking photos of you as a couple. And worse yet, they are all staged. When you think of your wedding album, the visions that flash through your head are in-the-moment, showing you and your guests having the time of your lives, and spontaneity. Instead this photographer is exactly the opposite of what you wanted.

You look around and your guests are having the time of their lives, capturing the moments on their iPhones. You’d love to have those photos, but there is no way you can contact some 200 people after the wedding and beg them to give you the photos. But how are you going to get the shots that show your guest living up the night?

Wedding Party is a free app that your guests can download onto their phones, and then it’ll store all of the photos they take that evening into one place, so you can access them. Your professional photographer can capture the glamor shots, while your guests get the subtle, fun, and candid moments that might be missed. Plus it’s so easy that even the flower girl can use it.

Another thing I love about this app (available for iPhone, beta for Android) is that it uploads the photos onto your personalized website in real-time, so if you have guests that are unable to make it, they can still see what’s going on.

Instagram and Twitter are also great alternatives for people who are signed up with accounts with those services. When you want to see your photos the very next day, without having to wait weeks to see the results of your professional wedding photos, this is a wonderful alternative.

Instagram is a fast and easy way to get multiple perspectives on your big day. Again, for guests who are unable to make the long-distance ceremony, this will give them a sneak peek into the happenings of your wedding.

So here are the steps you’re going to want to take:

Create a hashtag for your wedding so that all your photos will get stored in one place. When someone takes a photo of your day then they need to tag the photo with the hashtag. For example #EssenceofEventsWedding. Make sure the hashtag hasn’t been used before!

If you are less inclined to pick a hashtag for your wedding day, another option is to create a profile that people can follow and also tag photos to. If you already have an Instagram profile, simply log out and create a new account with a title related to your wedding day. This way you will always have a spot you can go to that is solely reserved for this event.

Make sure to provide some sort of handout or bulletin to introduce your guests to these ideas which explain the concept and also notes the selected hashtag and/or profile.

So you've spent months planning and planning, and the big day has finally arrived. You want everything to go perfectly, so chances are you've been sure to spend countless hours planning all the details before your "I Do's". It goes without saying that you haven't forgotten the details regarding your dress, jewelry, hair and makeup. The interesting thing is that one thing most brides forget is a music playlist for their wedding day.

Choosing an ultimate wedding day playlist for getting ready, can be hard work. It can take countless hours and when you have what seems to be a million other things to do, it can be the last thing you want to tackle. So we've compiled a list of the top 25 ultimate wedding day playlist (in no particular order). These songs are sure to make getting ready with the girls a blast!

"Ever Ever After" by Carrie Underwood

"I Do" by Colbie Callat

"Marry You" by Bruno Mars

"Wedding Bell Blues" by the cast of Glee

"Would'nt it be nice" by the Beach Boys

"Glamorous" by Fergie

"Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper

"Love Story" by Taylor Swift

Remember when selecting your playlist to keep in mind who will be there. If those getting ready include grandparents, parents and little ones, remember to select songs that will be appropriate and be sure to get the censored version of your favorite songs! Be sure to keep the songs upbeat and consider the theme to inspire your song selection. It will be a guaranteed pre-party in your dressing room. Since everyone getting ready is sure to be giddy and full of anticipation, you may want to keep slow songs out of this playlist, you wouldn't want to change the mood.

Don't forget classic songs, and also feel free to ask those who will be getting ready with you for wedding day playlist suggestions. Try asking those who have been included in other weddings, they may have a good idea of songs that work and which song do not. And of course you will want to think of which songs best suit you and make it more personal to you as the bride. Include your favorite songs, ones that will bring back good memories of your time with family, friends and your fiance.
