Boutonnieres - Trend Tuesday

Posted on May 21, 2013 at 9:20 AM Comments comments (0)

Summer wedding season is rapidly approaching, which means there is a good possibility that your wedding is right around the corner. You’ve already selected your dress months ago, plus all the accessories, jewelry, shoes and other necessities that go with it. But your groom has far few things that go into his wedding day attire.

In many cases, your future husband-to-be could care less about what he’s wearing on the big day; he’s just excited to finally be married to you. But you still want him looking his best!

Of course there are a variety of different suits and wedding day attire he can chose from, with your careful guidance, of course, but there isn’t much personality between each one. You’re marrying your man because of who he is; the quirks and his individuality that makes him unique and different from everyone else, what he wears should also reflect that.

The boutonniere is this season’s biggest trend, and how you’re going to help your man (and the rest of his crew’s) formal wear stand out from the crowd!

Historically, the boutonniere was just a carnation in a button hole, but today it has transformed into a work of art. Having unique floral’s will also tie into the theme of your event; dramatic, casual, or unique. Whatever style you’re aiming for, these boutonnieres will make the wedding cohesive, and add something exciting to your groom’s otherwise potentially drab ensemble.

Take a look at some of these boutonnieres to see a sample of what your future husband could be modeling on the big day.

One-of-a-kind flowers make for a distinctive boutonniere.

I love the pops of oranges and succulents used in these. They are all different, too, which makes them more special and unique.

Using thistles instead of flowers is not only a huge trend right now, it also means if you want to keep the boutonniere for a memory, it’ll dry and store really well.

Different choices instead of flowers.

These couples both decided to opt out of traditional boutonnieres all together. One couple use golf tees, another chose buttons, while the third used pinwheels. Anything is possible with some imagination!

Bridesmaid's Dresses - Trend Tuesday

Posted on May 14, 2013 at 10:40 AM Comments comments (0)

Let’s talk about something that’s gotten a pretty bad wrap, and no, I’m not talking about your uncle’s literal wrapping of your last present (although that was pretty bad, masking tape and newspaper, anyone?). No, I’m talking about the dreaded bridesmaid dress. Shudder. Anyone who has been asked to participate in a wedding may, right now, be experiencing dreaded flash backs, and cold sweats.

But fear not! Because the rein of terrible, ill-fitting cocktail dresses has ended! You can now come out from your hiding places, because designers and brides alike have come to their senses and have decided to stop putting bridal attendees through a 27 Dresses-like conundrum of wedding day panic.

Options for bridesmaid’s dresses have greatly improved over the years, and it’s recently become trendier to have miss-matching gowns all together. Brides are ditching the one-style-fits-all approach for a more flattering, and casual feel for their day.

Here are a few new styles that I’m loving this season:

Print dresses are definitely more bohemian, but this look is something you wouldn’t even need to “shorten so you can wear it again.”

Some of these dresses are vintage, while others are new. However the bridal party kept the color the same, and tied the look together with matching satin ribbons and grey tights.

Again, matching the tone to be similar, but changing the dress styles keeps the look for the bridal party fresh, young, and romantic.

Of course having matching dresses will always be on-trend, especially if you are having a formal wedding. Just be sure if you are the bride or helping choose bridesmaid dresses, that the style and color is flattering to all the members in the bridal party. Another important tip is to make sure to have the dresses properly tailored. Sometimes people spend more money on proper alterations then the actual garment itself.

Greeting Line Alternative - Tradition Tuesday

Posted on May 7, 2013 at 10:40 AM Comments comments (0)

Sometimes receiving lines can seem as though they take forever, and as the hosts of your wedding, you want to be sure to enjoy the party too! To take the pressure off of the couple, there is a Scandinavian tradition that has become more popular in recent years at weddings across the country. This custom is a great alternative to a receiving line, or trying to spend the whole night visiting your guests at each and every table. This is an innovative way for newlyweds to enjoy their reception, and get the opportunity to see their guests as they stop by to say congratulations at the couple's table.

Place empty chairs directly across from the bride and groom for the guests to say their greetings and chat. We like the idea of making these signs to allow your guests to feel welcome to come and talk.

It’s a wonderful idea that is sure to make your wedding a memorable event for both you and your guests. Visitors will appreciate the time they get to spend saying their formal congratulations in person, while you, as a couple, will have more time to enjoy every aspect of your wedding reception.

Feel free to contact us with your family or culture's way of enjoying weddings; we would love to hear more ideas on this and other customs. Wedding Wednesday- Here's a little how to when it comes to turning your rustic vintage wedding into a more low key formal affair. Everything from adding chandeliers to doilies as an added touch. I loved the idea of mixing textures of burlap with the elegance of crystal and lace. Check out a few inspirations I loved this week!
